Lycanthropes

Becoming a Lycanthrope

Just like in normal Pathfinder a Lycanthrope can be born into it (natural) or be bitten by an alpha (afflicted). Anyone can become a Lycanthrope, but few have the opportunity to become an Alpha. There are three distinct ways to become an Alpha, either you kill a former alpha and “steal” their status along with their life, or an alpha willingly transfers the status over. The final way in which to become an Alpha is more mysterious and unpredictable, it is chosen through shear force of will and character. Lycanthropes who achieve the third are known as a “True Alpha” and earn the fame and infamy that comes along with the title. Once an alpha gains the alpha status they are always an alpha until they die or willingly pass it on.

There are three distinct versions of Lycanthropes, in order of power they are:

Alpha

The strongest, and almost always the pack leader, although there are cases of Alphas without packs. An Alpha can easily be determined based upon its red eye color

Challenge Rating: + 3 (Plus Pack Adjust)
Size and Type: Gains the Shapechanger Subtype
AC: In hybrid or animal form the lycanthrope has the natural armor bonus of the base animal increased by + 4
Defensive Abilities: DR 15/Silver, Fast healing 3
Change Shape (Su) – All lycanthropes have three forms—a humanoid form, an animal form, and a hybrid form. Equipment does not meld with the new form between humanoid and hybrid form, but does between those forms and animal form. A natural lycanthrope can shift to any of its three alternate forms as a move-equivalent action. An afflicted lycanthrope can assume animal or hybrid form as a full-round action by making a DC 15 Constitution check, or humanoid form as a full-round action by making a DC 20 Constitution check. On nights when the full moon is visible, an afflicted lycanthrope gains a + 5 morale bonus to Constitution checks made to assume animal or hybrid form, but a –5 penalty to Constitution checks made to assume humanoid form. An afflicted lycanthrope reverts to its humanoid form automatically with the next sunrise, or after 8 hours of rest, whichever comes first. A slain lycanthrope reverts to its humanoid form, although it remains dead.
Lycanthropic Empathy (Ex) – In any form, natural lycanthropes can communicate and empathize with animals related to their animal form. They can use Diplomacy to alter such an animal’s attitude, and when so doing gain a + 4 racial bonus on the check. Afflicted lycanthropes only gain this ability in animal or hybrid form.
Curse of Lycanthropy (Su) – A natural lycanthrope’s bite attack in animal or hybrid form infects a humanoid target with lycanthropy (Fortitude DC 15 negates). If the victim’s size is not within one size category of the lycanthrope, this ability has no effect.
Alpha’s Roar (Su) – The roar of an alpha can bolster, hinder or forcibly transform other Shapechangers. When used to bolster, his pack gains a + 3 to all rolls for 1 + con in rounds. When used to hinder, other Shapechangers take a -3 to all rolls for 1 + con in rounds. When used to forcibly transform, Shapechangers must make a constitution check (DC 15+HD+Con) or be forcibly transformed into or out of their Lycanthrope form. This ability can be used any time out of combat but only once during combat.
Pack (Su) – An alpha gains strength the more pack members they have, an Alpha gains a +1 Str bonus for each two pack members and a +1 Con bonus for each three pack members. A pack member is a shapechanger similar in terms to a lycanthrope, like an Entothrope works as well. For every 6 pack members their CR increases by +1.
Abilities: +2 Wis, +2 Str, +2 Con in all forms; +4 Str, +2 Con in hybrid and animal forms. In addition to these adjustments to the base creature’s stats, a lycanthrope’s ability scores change when he assumes hybrid or animal form. In human form, the lycanthrope’s ability scores are unchanged from the base creature’s form. In animal and hybrid form, the lycanthrope’s ability scores are the same as the base creature’s or the base animal’s, whichever ability score is higher.

Beta

The average were-creature, they can be bolstered by their alpha. A Beta can easily be determined based upon its eye color of brown.

Challenge Rating: +1
Size and Type: Gains the Shapechanger Subtype
AC: In hybrid or animal form the lycanthrope has the natural armor bonus of the base animal increased by +2.
Defensive Abilities: Natural: DR 10/Silver, Fast healing 2, Afflicted DR 5/Silver, Fast healing 1
